Overview
Most owner-managed businesses find out how the year went about four months after it ended. That is fine for the ATO and useless for running the business. The businesses that grow steadily tend to be the ones that look at a small number of the right figures every month.
We build the reporting, forecasting and benchmarking that turns your accounting file into something you make decisions from — and then we sit down with you and read it together.
Scope
What we do
- Management reporting
- A monthly or quarterly pack that fits on a few pages: performance against budget, margin by line, and what changed.
- Cash flow forecasting
- Rolling forecasts that show when cash gets tight, far enough ahead to arrange for it.
- Budgets and scenarios
- An annual budget you actually track against, plus scenario modelling for a hire, a lease, an equipment purchase or a downturn.
- KPIs and benchmarking
- A handful of measures specific to your industry, compared against benchmark data rather than against last month alone.
- Pricing and margin analysis
- Where the money is genuinely made across products, services, jobs or clients — which is rarely where owners expect.
- Board and lender reporting
- Reporting packs for a board, an investor or a bank covenant, prepared to their format.
- Succession and exit readiness
- Getting the accounts, structure and dependencies into shape well before a sale or handover.
What we don’t do
We are accountants, not licensed financial or credit advisers. We don’t recommend investments, insurance or loan products. Where you need that advice, we’ll refer you to someone licensed to give it and work alongside them.
Questions
Common questions
How often should we meet?
For most owner-managed businesses, quarterly is the point where the reporting starts changing decisions. Monthly suits businesses with tight cash cycles, seasonal swings or fast growth.
We use Xero / MYOB / QuickBooks. Is that a problem?
No. We work in whatever you already use. If the file needs cleaning up first we’ll tell you what that involves before starting.
Can you do this if someone else does our tax?
Yes. Advisory and reporting engagements don’t require us to take over your compliance work.
